NUML moot on South Asian writings in English

Islamabad: The English Graduate Studies Department of National University of Modern Languages (NUML) held a one-day conference on ‘Globalisation and Postcolonial South Asian Writings in English’.
The principal organiser and the focal person were Head of the English Graduate Studies Department Professor Dr. Saeed Sheikh and Arshad Ali respectively, says a press release.
The day’s highlight was the keynote address by University of North Texas postcolonial scholar Professor Dr. Masood Ashraf Raja, who dwelt on the role of South Asian English writers in the bigger movement of post-colonialism. The issues of trauma literature, partition and civil war were discussed at length by him. The chief guest for the morning session was the AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui who pointed out that no postcolonial study and debate could be completed without a mention of South Asian writers who built their entire literary careers around this concept. Professor Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi, member academic, was the chief guest for the evening session. He pointed out the need for such conferences which could bring back into perspective the postcolonial issues.
The conference was held under the patronage of NUML Rector Major General (r) Masood Hassan. The chief organiser was NUML Director General Brigadier Azam Jamal.
