LAHORE: The Times Higher Education Asian University Rankings 2018 Wednesday ranked the Government College University (GCU) 351+ in its latest rating.

The GCU, last July, was ranked 1001+ in worldwide rankings by Times Higher Education. However, in the worldwide list, GCU had stood 683rd on the basis of its international outlook among all the world universities.

“We have been sending data to Times Higher Education for many years, but it was the first time in July 2017 and second time in February 2018 that GCU was listed among international universities,” said Quality Enhancement Cell Director Iram Sohail.

Government College University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said besides international recognition, these rankings helped universities understand their weak and strong areas. He said the industry-academia gap was the reason of lack in ranking.

However, GCU Chemistry department had hosted an international conference last month on industry-academia linkages to bridge this gap, he said. The VC hoped that the university would improve its ranking in 2019. He called upon the government to increase funding to GCU, saying that their challenge was to improve quality and ranking while remaining affordable to the students.

UVAS: The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, in its Asia University Rankings 2018, has placed the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) among 301-350 top Asian universities.

“Inclusion of UVAS in world rankings reflects continuous impact of UVAS not only in national education and research, but on industry and society also,” said the Vice-Chancellor. He congratulated the faculty, staff and students on this achievement. He hoped that UVAS would continue its journey of progress and development. It is another achievement of UVAS after qualifying in QS Asian University Rankings a few months back.

Times Higher Education Rankings are the global performance tables that judge research-intensive universities across their core missions, teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators were grouped into five above-mentioned areas and used in THE World University Rankings-Asia to develop a comprehensive and balanced comparison of universities across the globe.
