KARACHI: An unbroken partnership between Raja Liaquat and skipper Wasim Ali enabled Korangi Fighters to beat Malir Dragons in the final of the Innovators Karachi Super League here at Naya Nazimabad Lawai cricket stadium on Saturday.
Batting first, Malir posted 124 for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Arsalan (44) was the highest scorer. M Zahid, Tauqeer Malik, Sadiq Ali and Arish took one wicket each.
Korangi chased down the target with seven wickets in hand.
Korangi struggled in the beginning, having lost their openers at the score of 11. Fayyaz Hussain scored three and Haider Ali made five. Raja then stepped up to the plate and added 44 runs with Taimoor Ali.
Wasim (22) also assisted Raja at the end of the innings. Raja smashed the winning boundary and remained not out on 60. He was adjudged the man of the final.
Fauz-ul-Hasan of Gulshan was named the player of the tournament for his 289 runs. Rao Sajid of Malir received the best bowler and Hannan Achakzai the best all-rounder award. M Ali bagged the best wicket-keeper award and Waseem Ahmed was declared the best fielder of the tournament.
Former first-class cricketer Salahuddin Ahmed appreciated the efforts of the organisers and said these types of events should often take place. “This is a good platform for the youngsters to hone their skills,” he said.
