NEW YORK: Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, was named in the top 11 powerful women of the world on Sunday in a2017 ranking issued by New York Times.
The NY Times named Maryam Nawaz the most courageous and most powerful woman of Pakistan. According to the NY times, Maryam is the most suitable heir to the political empire that her father and ousted premier Nawaz Sharif has built. However, the foreign media outlet has branded corruption references and court cases hindrances in her way to further popularity.
“She had recently emerged as the right hand of her father, the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,” NY Times wrote. On the other hand, Manal al-Sharif of Saudi Arabia is among the top eleven mentions of the New York Times.
The prestigious American newspaper said: "Since its inception in 2002, the Saturday Profile has aimed to bring to readers of The New York Times people around the world they probably have never heard of, but who have led interesting lives and done extraordinary things, or perhaps recently gone through a remarkable experience."
