Another terror attack has struck Lahore, causing death and injuries. As usual, statements pour in from state functionaries condemning the incident and sympathising with the victims. In the midst of such a tragedy and when the nation is in the grip of the Panama fever, the prime minister has decided to go to Maldives. Can the rulers be more insensitive?
The Panama issue surfaced 15 months ago and there has been a long wait, while the government remains at a standstill. Meanwhile, the economy is in tatters and continues to slide downward. The IMF, in its recent report, has already raised alarm bells. Are these not the signs of a failed state? If this is the democratic system we aspired for and if this is the outdated judicial system that cannot deliver, it is better we have none. A technocrat government is inescapable at this juncture to take the nation out of the woods. Time is running out.
