KARACHI: Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said he doesn’t want that another prime minister is removed from the post like him but he has to give his consent to the policy of the party (PPP) regarding the demand of resignation of the PM owing to the serious nature of allegations against Nawaz Sharif.
“I don’t want that whatever happened to me should happen to all but the judgement of the apex judiciary should also be accepted,” said Gilani.
Talking to newsmen after meeting the Pakistan People's Party leader Saeed Ghani here at his residence in Chanesar Goth area on Sunday, the former PM said that there was no chance of premature holding of general elections in the country. He said that the PPP had been the most active in the present political scenario as this was the same party that duly respected the judiciary.
“We should take care of survival of institutions as in my own case, neither I submitted any appeal (to the apex court) nor I fought as nothing would be left if there was a confrontation among the institutions,” said the former PM. He said it was expected from the judiciary that it would give its judgements timely in order to avoid the situation of a clash emerging among the institutions.
Gilani said that he had been made to exit the post of the PM in a case not related to corruption but despite that the Constitution should be duly observed by all of us. He said that sweets were distributed by both the parties to the case when the Supreme Court had announced its initial verdict in the case of Panama Papers scandal.
He said it was always that courts’ judgements were in favour of someone and against someone other. “The judgements of courts should be accepted in order to avoid a situation of confrontation," he said.
“We also accepted the (court) judgements in order to avoid the clash with the institutions and the judiciary. Clash with such institutions is in nobody’s interest,” said the former PM. On the occasion, he greeted PPP leader Saeed Ghani for winning the recently-held by-election in Karachi on constituency PS-114 of Sindh
Assembly. He said that the MQM had levelled a false allegation against the PPP of doing rigging in the by-election on the constituency PS-114. “We did defeat all in the by-election including the kite, bat and the lion. People's Party will secure the mandate of Karachi in the next general elections,” he said.
