A woman was murdered in Surjani Town in the wee hours of Saturday, the police told The News, making her the fourth female victim in the town in two months.

SHO Muhammad Asim said 18-year-old Asma Mehmood Alam’s family called the police following the attack. “A team of officials was dispatched to her Taiser Town residence, where they found the stabbed woman.”

He said the woman was rushed to a nearby health care facility, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival, adding that her body was later taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to complete the medico-legal formalities.

The SHO said the victim had contracted free-will marriage, but then she was divorced over some domestic problems, adding that she had moved back in with her parents.

The officer said the victim’s father had accused her former husband for the attack, but the initial police probe suggested that her cousin was responsible for her murder.

Asim said the police investigation was still under way and they were trying to locate the cousin, identified as Muneer, to ascertain the motive behind the murder.

On March 25, 22-year-old Sidrah was murdered in Surjani Town by her husband on the suspicion of her having illicit relations with a hitherto unidentified man.

Former SHO Mulazim Hussain said the woman’s in-laws had informed them that she had hanged herself from the ceiling fan, but the police took the husband, Samiullah, into custody after her autopsy report confirmed that she was strangled to death.

On April 13, a man shot his wife and mother-in-law dead in Surjani Town’s Kaneez Fatima Society when they were on their way to the Malir Court to attend the proceedings of a Khula case.

The SHO said Kiran and her mother Shah Jehan were attacked by Malik Nasir, who then escaped from the scene, but the police later arrested the accused following raids in different parts of the city.
