Workshop at SLS School held
Rawalpindi
A team of delegates from the Canadian High Commission, Pakistan visited Sadeeqa’s Learning System (SLS) Montessori & High School, Tufail Road branch for a workshop, says a press release.
The workshop was on the discussion of a comic book called ‘Pasban’ (guardian) developed by CFX Comics in collaboration with the Canadian High Commission. Students were provided with the book series prior to the workshop. The purpose of the discussion was to make the students think critically about the underlying jihadist ideologies and the concepts connected with radicalization in culturally relevant forms.
The team was led by Andrew Turner, Deputy High Commissioner of Canada in Pakistan, consultant Walter Sadiq, counsellor Ryan Mitchell, Amina Sarwar from the Political Department and Madeeha Farooq from the Police Liaison Office. The delegates were welcomed by the students by singing a beautiful national song. Then Turner shared his views on behalf of the people of Canada about cultural and religious tolerance.
The Q&A session consisted of questions like how one can avoid getting involved in a terrorist situation, why it is important to do a background check before one offers their help towards any social group and most importantly, how to talk about religious tolerance within our social circles. The discussion had students conclude that while there is always good and bad around us, the will to choose is always ours.
Principal, Samina Zeeshan thanked the Canadian High Commission team and said that no religion preaches intolerance and whosoever uses religion as a front to create unrest and divisions amongst people clearly has no religion at all.
After the national anthem was sung the students and teachers had an informal one to one session with the guests.
