Our hearts go out to Raza Rabbani, Khursheed Shah and Aitzaz Ahsan for their stance – though mild – over the 21st Amendment. They are PPP stalwarts and senior, well-respected members of the legal fraternity. Perhaps today’s tears, sadness and powers of persuasion might have been avoided if many years ago they had guided their party into the constitutional rule of law.
Then, given the PPP’s strength and their own legal acumen, they could have helped ensure that previous governments of Nawaz Sharif had equally adhered to parliamentary checks and balances.
