With a spike in burglaries in city’s markets, President of Karachi chapter of All Pakistan Organisation of Small Traders and Cottage Industries, Mahmood Hamid, has said that the traders would opt for a strike if from government and police authorities failed to protect their shops.
He shared his concern while talking to a delegation of traders in the Light House market area on Saturday, and stressed that, with extortionists now at bay burglars were being a menace for them.
He added that the looters were yet to be arrested and the authorities had failed to take the necessary steps in this regard.
Referring to the incidents, he said that the alleged gang had broken the locks of 25 to 30 shops in a single night and more than 300 shops had been looted in a month. He added that government wasn’t interested in curbing these crimes and if their response remains stagnant, they would be compelled to go on a strike.
