Andrew’s hopes for Princess Beatrice, Eugenie's royal roles crushed
Andrew’s daughters to miss high-profile events due to Queen Elizabeth’s 'half in, half out' rule
Andrew reportedly had high hopes for his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, to take on bigger royal roles.
However, the former Duke of York’s hopes seems to have been crushed by his own late mother Queen Elizabeth’s “half in, half out” rule for the royal family.
Even though it was aimed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it also applies to Andrew’s daughters, as per author and classicist Harry Mount.
He noted that while both Beatrice and Eugenie have full-time jobs, they also have places to stay in London.
Beatrice has a flat at St James's Palace, while Eugenie can use Ivy Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace. Both homes are partly supported by royal funds.
And now that King Charles is said to be keen to create distance between the Yorks and the rest of the royal family due to their parents’ links to Jeffrey Epstein, Beatrice and Eugenie’s royal roles are under threat.
“Any hope of royal duties – which [their father Andrew] Mountbatten-Windsor is said to covet for them – are over,” Mount penned in the i newspaper.
He added, “Of course, they will go to big royal events: weddings, christenings, funerals and coronations. But the big picture opportunities like the Easter church service at Sandringham are over.”
Previously, in 2023, a source told The Express, “Andrew has helped orchestrate a slow and gradual return for the girls, which has seen them do more and more charity work alongside school visits and other duties.
“The plan was to slowly increase their appearances over time until they became more prominent members of the family.
“They have realised that the girls are needed and have latched onto that like a limpet on a rock."
