Is 'Love Island' really going grown-up?
Word has been going around online that 'Love Island' has a new spin-off in the pipeline
Love Island has not announced any spin-off for contestants over the age of 30.
A report began making rounds online claiming the ITV series was getting revamped for a more mature approach to relationships after a decision to axe All Stars. It said the show would take over the usual January slot currently held by Love Island: All Stars, but follow the same villa-based dating concept.
It said the network intended to swap “situationships" with "serious sparks” by featuring contestants who are more sure of what they want.
However, there hasn't been any official press release, ITV website update, or a verified social media post confirming an Over 30s spinoff set for 2027 release that The Tab claimed in its report. Even the end of the article says, “you might want to check the date. Happy April Fools’!”
To reiterate, there's no “bold and brilliant new chapter” for Love Island fans in the forseeable future, unlike what a Google search would tell you.
However, it would've been fair move in the wake of the controversy attached to All Stars latest winners Samie Elishi, 26, and Ciaran Davies, 23, who broke up three weeks after leaving the villa with £50,000 prize money ($25,000 each).
Both Samie and Ciaran shared their sides of the story, with Ciaran claiming the split was not initiated from his end, and Samie insisting the relationship ended because the dynamic changed outside of the villa and it no longer felt right to her.
“It’s okay to call things off with someone that you’re talking to or dating,” she said in a social media post after Ciaran's bombshell podcast appearance on Not My Bagg.
“Me and Ciaran were in the very early stages of dating and we got into the real world and it just didn’t work," she added further in the post.
Samie has also gone on several dates with fellow Islander Tyrique Hyde ever since and sparked criticism from viewers who supported her initially. Fans have gone as far as demanding Samie to return her share of the prize and accusing her of dumbing Ciaran simply because he doesn't come from money.
While there's no ongoing casting for Love Island: Over 30s, certainly some fans would agree All Stars has “run its course.”
