Acting US envoy meets Mohsin Naqvi

ISLAMABAD: Acting US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker met with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday to condemn the recent terrorist blast in Islamabad, offer condolences, and discuss ongoing counterterrorism cooperation between the two nations.

Ambassador Baker opened the meeting by condemning the Islamabad blast and expressing deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident. She also paid tribute to Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in the war against terrorism.

Minister Naqvi provided an update on the attack, noting the terrorists’ likely target. “The terrorist wanted to target the court. Due to security measures, he could not enter,” he stated.

He confirmed that significant progress has been made in the investigation. “All individuals linked to the attack have been traced; the facilitator has been arrested, and a comprehensive investigation is underway,” he said.

He also reiterated the government’s firm stance on its policy regarding such acts, emphasising, “Negotiations and terrorist attacks cannot go side by side.”

During the discussion, both officials affirmed the strong ties between the two countries.

Minister Naqvi highlighted the foundation of the relationship, stating, “Pakistan and the United States have relations based on friendship and mutual trust.”

Ambassador Baker appreciated Pakistan’s robust counterterrorism efforts and commitment to regional stability.

The meeting, which underscored the continued partnership in security matters, was also attended by the Islamabad inspector general of police and other senior officials.
