Creativity of special children at summer camp lauded
Islamabad:Secretary, Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training, Mr. Nadeem Mahbub, paid a special visit to the ongoing summer camp titled “Dil Say Dekho” at the National Institute of Special Education (NISE), Islamabad.
The camp has been organized by the Directorate General of Special Education (DGSE) as part of a series of initiatives during the summer break for children with special needs across DGSE’s special education centers. The “Dil Say Dekho” summer camp is a joint collaborative effort by NISE, National Mobility & Independence Training Centre (NM&ITC), National Special Education Centre for Visually Handicapped Children (NSEC for VHC), and National Braille Press, Islamabad.
A total of 62 visually impaired children and expert resource persons are participating in the camp. The camp aims to foster confidence, independence, and creativity in children with visual impairments through a range of engaging educational and recreational activities including, Orientation & Mobility Training, Accessible Indoor Sports for Visually Impaired, Music and Instrumental Classes, Braille Storytelling Sessions, Personal Experience Narratives (PENs), Computer Literacy through JAWS (Job Access With Speech) Software. During his visit, the Secretary was warmly received by Director General, DGSE, Captain (R) Asif Iqbal Asif, who briefed him on the camp’s objectives and thematic segments.
Mahbub personally interacted with the participating children, who confidently showcased their newly acquired skills including independent movement with white cane, playing accessible board games, music performance, reading Braille stories, and demonstrating JAWS-based computer navigation.
