City witnesses surge in pickpocketing cases

LAHORE : Lahore has witnessed an alarming surge in pickpocketing cases, with 7,573 citizens falling victim to this street crime in just the first four months of this year, according to official police records.

The City Division reported the highest number of incidents at 2,107, followed by Model Town Division with 1,576 cases and Saddar Division recording 1,392 thefts. Other affected areas included Iqbal Town (1,092 cases), Civil Lines (810), and Cantt Division (596). Most thefts occurred in crowded spaces such as shrines, busy markets like Anarkali and Shah Alam, transport terminals, and even funeral gatherings, where pickpockets exploit the chaos to target unsuspecting citizens.
