The posts of chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) and Hyderabad Education Board will be re-advertised and the additional candidates selected by the search committee will not be appointed as chairmen.

Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Haider Shah told The News that acting chairmen have been appointed to Karachi and Hyderabad boards because the posts of full-term chairmen in these two boards will be re-advertised soon.

A senior officer of the Boards and Universities Department told The News that the additional candidates selected by the search committee were not appointed as chairmen because Karachi and Hyderabad boards were considered among the best education boards in Sindh and it was not appropriate that additional candidates with low marks were appointed to these two boards. If this happens, the matter can also go to court.

Regular full-term chairmaen could not be appointed to three education boards of Sindh. The matter of appointment of chairman to the Sukkur Education Board is under hearing in the court. Retired Brigadier Waseem Ahmed, who had secured 59 marks in Inter Board Karachi, was recommended to be appointed as chairman. However, upon his refusal, retired Grade 21 bureaucrat Muhammad Misbah Tanhiyo was then appointed as chairman to the BIEK.

The search committee had given him 58.50 marks, but he also refused. While Rafiq Ahmed Chandio was appointed as chairman in Hyderabad Education Board, he joined but later apologized and said that he had mistakenly assumed the charge of the chairman’s post. He had secured the highest score of 59.40.

The next scorer in the additional panel selected by the search committee was Faqir Muhammad Lakho, who is currently serving as the Regional Director of Colleges in Karachi, with 55.80 marks. This was followed by Dr. Shuja with 55.80, Colonel (retd) Syed Muhammad Alamdar Raza with 55.40, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Memon with 53.20, Abid Ali Mughal with 52, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah with 51.25, Qazi Arif Ali with 51, Javed Ali Memon with 50.67, Ali Gohar Chang and Pir Sohail Ahmed Sirhandi with 50 marks.
