LAHORE: Azan Owais’s unbeaten double century and left-arm fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s excellent performance gave Sialkot a win by innings and 57 runs in the first match of the trilateral phase of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy against Peshawar.
The match was decided on the third day when the Peshawar team was dismissed for 182 in their second innings. Earlier, Sialkot resumed their innings at 319 for 6. Azan Owais, who was unbeaten on 161, completed the first double century of his first class career. He struck 27 fours and remained unbeaten on 203 runs.
Captain Osama Mir scored 29 runs with five fours. He added 60 runs in the seventh wicket partnership with Azan Owais. Mohammad Ali scored 16 runs and added 40 runs for the eighth wicket with Azan Owais.
Aamir Khan was the most successful bowler. He took 5 wickets for 141 runs in 40 overs. The Peshawar team appeared helpless in the second innings in front of the bowling of Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Ali. On one occasion, half the team was out for 95. Sajjad Ibrahim was the top scorer with 44 runs including 9 fours.
Shoaib Akhtar took six wickets for 51 runs, which is his career best bowling. Mohammad Ali took 3 wickets for 43 runs, so he took 7 wickets in the match. The second match of the trilateral phase will be played between Peshawar and Lahore Whites in Abbottabad from December 2. Sialkot and Lahore Whites will compete in the last match starting on December 27. Two top teams of this trilateral phase will compete in the final from January 2.
