Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi presided over a meeting on Wednesday to review arrangements for the evacuation of dangerous and dilapidated buildings in the city before rainfalls.
The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) said in a briefing that most of the dilapidated and dangerous buildings are located in District South, numbering 450. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Karachi-I Syed Ghulam Mehdi, District South Deputy Commissioner Altaf Sario, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Commissioner Karachi Office Sajjad Abro, and senior officers of the SBCA and the provincial culture department.
The meeting was informed that notices have been served to get evacuated all dangerous buildings in the city. The meeting presented a list of extremely dangerous and dilapidated buildings, stating that 40 buildings are in extremely dangerous condition and need to be evacuated on a priority basis.
It was decided that Deputy Commissioner Altaf Sario would hold a meeting with the K-Electric and Sui Southern Gas Company to discontinue utility connections of 40 buildings and complete the process so that the residents could be evacuated immediately for their safety.
