This letter refers to the editorial ‘Toxic violence’ (May 24, 2024). The violent attack on PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan is reprehensible and deplorable in the highest possible terms. Difference of opinion is the beauty of not only democracy but healthy debate which helps build a civil society. Elements who resort to unwarranted violence do not seem to understand that violence is a never ending loop that does not spare anyone.
Sooner or later it will boomerang back to those who perpetrate it. Many of us disagree with Raoof Hasan’s view on how the PTI should conduct politics but we do admire his intellect, his writing skills and his command and control of the topic he is writing on. It is really a pleasure to read his pieces.
