A strategic plan for Eidul Azha was devised in a meeting chaired by Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Managing Director Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah on Sunday.

Relevant officers and private contractors responsible for garbage collection in the city were briefed on the contingency plan. Under Shah’s directive, offal collection points have been established on a zone-wise basis.

Some collection points and the number of labourers are yet to be finalised, so the MD instructed to revise the Eidul Azha plan and present it in the next meeting. Additionally, trenches will be dug at the landfill sites for the burial of animal remains. The SSWMB chief ordered that all weighing machines at the garbage transfer stations and landfill sites be kept functional. He also ordered ensuring the maintenance of all the machines before Eid to avoid any disruptions.

He ordered that all machinery and lime arrangements for operations be ensured, and that the trucks carrying offal to the landfill sites be covered. The operation will continue for four days during the Eid holidays, and regular garbage collection will also proceed uninterrupted.

The MD instructed the contractors to ensure lights, camps, water and other arrangements at the collection points and burial sites. He emphasised the importance of complete coordination with all the municipal institutions, especially union committees, and other agencies to provide relief to the public during Eid.
