LAHORE: A recent report from the intelligence agencies pointed out more than 108 officials involved in smuggling activities as facilitators.
According to the document, a copy of which is available with The News, the interior ministry has provided a comprehensive list of the officials to the Punjab government, calling for an immediate action against them.
The list includes diverse array of officers, belonging to the civil service, food, police, revenue, and counter-terrorism (CTD) departments. The officials allegedly involved have been part of a network, facilitating smuggling of essential commodities, compromising the integrity of several government departments.
According to the list, these officials are currently serving at different posts of different departments in various districts, tehsils and regions of Punjab including Mian Channu, Gujranwala, Okara, Basirpur (Okara), Lodhran, Rajanpur, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Jhabran (Sheikhupura), Kasur, Jhang, Narowal, Eminabad (Gujranwala), Sambrial, Mandi Bahauddin, Vehari, Renala Khurd, Chakwal, Muzaffargarh, Police Check-Post Kohat Road Jund, different police stations in Attock, Hasan Abdal, Attock Khurd, etc.
The Punjab Home Department has forwarded the list containing names to additional chief secretary Punjab, seeking a detailed report on action taken against these officials.
