The issue of enforced disappearances in Pakistan remains a serious problem. The government seems reluctant to confront this problem, which perpetuates a culture of impunity. Political parties also have a double standard on this issue, supporting families of missing persons when in opposition but making excuses when in power.
The judiciary’s efforts to address this issue are a step in the right direction, but concrete actions and genuine political will are needed to end enforced disappearances, which cause immense suffering and erode trust in state institutions.
