Research is a wonderful pursuit if it is done in the right spirit. Research can help unearth cures to many diseases; it can also help to discover new ways of doing things. However, research in our educational institutions has become a way of getting promotions, qualifying for administrative offices and earning financial rewards. Therefore, most of the research publications are works without any social impact and with no intellectual or practical contribution.
Even worse are the scenarios where the benefits are sought on the basis of subordinates’ research work. It is high time that the Higher Education Commission devises policies to deter academics from using research as a crutch.
