Dasu Hydropower project: ECC set to approve $2.58m for Chinese killed in terror attack

ISLAMABAD: The government is set to approve a $2.58 million compensation package for six Chinese nationals who lost their lives in a terrorist attack on March 26, 2024.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) is expected to approve this package in its next meeting, a senior official of the Cabinet Division told The News.
The ECC secretariat has received a summary seeking $2.58 million in compensation for the six employees of the Chinese company, China Gezhouba, which is the contractor for the Dasu Hydropower project. The compensation amount has been recommended to the ECC by the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) based on GDP per capita and purchasing power parity. The IMC has also recommended a compensation of Rs2.5 million for the Pakistani national who lost his life in the same attack.
Once approved by the ECC, the amount will be transferred to the account of Pakistan’s embassy in Beijing for onward payment to the families of the deceased Chinese nationals through appropriate channels.
