The import of over 30 million tons of wheat when a bumper wheat crop was anticipated cannot be swept under the rug as just a case of miscalculation on the part of the governmental mandarins. The interim government also took many other decisions, which should not have been taken by a temporary setup. The permission to import wheat was devastating for many stakeholders.
Not only has the wheat not been purchased from the farmers at the declared support price but valuable foreign exchange has been utilized to buy wheat which we never needed. A proper and thorough investigation should be carried out and action should be taken against those who are responsible.
