The declaration of an education emergency signifies a positive and forward-thinking step towards improving education in the country. Article 25-A of our constitution guarantees “free and compulsory” education for every child between the ages of five and 16. And yet, we are still facing a situation where fulfilling this promise has become a struggle necessitating an emergency. This issue stems from various factors such as poverty, lack of parental awareness, and unemployment.
To address this issue promptly we must allocate a higher budget for education, ensuring that resources are available to support all children without any distinction. Additionally, collaboration between government agencies and civil society organizations is crucial for combating child labour, which often deprives children of their right to education.
