Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi inaugurated the digital domicile desk at the District Korangi deputy commissioner’s office on Thursday. He announced that efforts are under way to make the domicile issuance system simpler and more transparent. The aim is to reduce delays, and eliminate the need for applicants to rely on agents, he said.

Naqvi spoke with residents during the inauguration. He sought feedback from applicants present at the event regarding the new service. He said that the digital domicile issuance system would be introduced in all districts, phasing out the traditional method. Plans are under way to shift the domicile issuance process online across Karachi, he added.

Korangi Deputy Commissioner Jawad Muzaffar provided a detailed briefing to the commissioner about the domicile issuance process. The commissioner inspected the domicile desk, and spoke with the staff and the residents.

The desk features various counters: one for submitting the official fee challan, another for issuing a number, and a third for scanning the necessary documents, such as CNICs, educational certificates and utility bills, for address verification.

The modern system ensures that each applicant’s photograph and documents are securely recorded, and a QR code is printed on the issued domicile for immediate verification. DC Muzaffar also mentioned plans to deliver domiciles to applicants’ homes, eliminating the need for them to revisit his office. This digital system will significantly reduce the time needed to issue domiciles, reducing it from two weeks to just two days, he pointed out.

Following the inauguration, Commissioner Naqvi chaired a review meeting at the DC’s office. The meeting focused on improving civic facilities, removing traffic obstructions caused by encroachments, cleaning and clearing construction debris, preventing illegal parking and enforcing official price control.
