ISLAMABAD: Former Senate chairman Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, while rejecting and condemning the sanctions imposed by the United States on four entities for their alleged involvement in supplying, missile applicable items to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program is, political use of export controls, said such a move is discriminatory and is based on double standards and demanded the parliamentary committees of Defence in both houses should be taken into confidence.
“The Parliamentary Committees of Defence in both houses should be taken into confidence, as to the consequences of the sanctions and steps intended to be taken to mitigate its effects as to also, how this confidential information reached the US,” he demanded in a statement on Sunday.
Rabbani said the claim to strict adherence to non-proliferation controls is a farce, as licensing requirements have been waived off for advanced military technologies for some countries.
He said no details or evidence have been shared with Pakistan.
Rabbani said such an arbitrary step undermines the non-proliferation regime as also regional peace and security.
