The Punjab CM’s directive to lower the rate of roti to Rs16 from Rs20 is unlikely to succeed. The costs of flour and gas have risen manifold in recent years, making such directives impractical. Instead of taking these unrealistic decisions, the provincial governments should adopt austerity measures and provide relief to the people in more feasible ways.
