Law & order challenges: KP CM orders prompt release of Rs3bn for procurement of APCs, arms

Gandapur also directed the police authorities to allocate one-time special quota for the recruitment of heirs of police shuhada in the police force

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Wednesday ordered the immediate release of Rs3.00 billion for the procurement of armored personnel carriers (APCs), arms and other latest equipment to strengthen KP Police to effectively deal with prevailing law and order challenges in the province.

The chief minister issued the directive while chairing a meeting on law and order at Chief Minister’s House, said a handout. Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chauhdry, Inspector General Police Akhter Hayat Khan Gandapur, and other officials concerned attended the meeting.

Ali Amin Gandapur also directed the police authorities to allocate one time special quota for the recruitment of heirs of police shuhada in the police force. “A proper case to this effect be prepared for approval of the provincial cabinet,” he added.

With the proposed one-time special quota, children of police shuhada, waiting for recruitment since long, could be recruited simultaneously.

The participants were briefed about the overall law and order situation, challenges faced in this regard, future course of action and other related matters. The matter regarding establishment of a security division within the police department for the security of prominent figures and installations, was also discussed.

The chief minister asked the authorities concerned to initiate the safe city project in all divisional headquarters of the province and said that improving law and order was the top-most priority of his government.

Police force would be equipped with the latest arms and tools in order to enable them to effectively deal with the prevailing situation, he said and directed the authorities concerned to provide required funds for this purpose on priority basis.

The chief minister also announced to include hires of police shuhada in Ramazan relief package, under which they would also be provided with Rs 10,000 in cash.

The chief minister also directed the police authorities to formulate a viable policy for providing security to very important persons in the province.
