Personnel of the Pakistan Customs Jinnah nternational Airport Collectorate foiled an attempt to smuggle gold worth Rs11 million on Tuesday.

Syed Irfan Ali, a spokesman for Customs, stated that the customs staff at the airport’s international arrival lounge intercepted a passenger named Nizamuddin, who had arrived in Karachi from Dubai via Emirates Airlines flight EK 606, based on suspicion at the green channel.

Upon inquiry about his luggage, the passenger denied any such items. However, after scanning the passenger's luggage and discovering gold ornaments, the customs staff transferred the luggage to the examination counter for further inspection in the presence of the passenger.

Despite questioning, the passenger failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the gold ornaments. Consequently, the customs staff seized the recovered jewelry, weighing 49 tola, with a total value of Rs11.47 million. Legal action was being pursued under the Customs Act, with further investigations underway.
