The issue of appointing vice chancellors at 19 universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been delayed. It is said that KP’s caretaker government had abolished the search committee formed during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government.
The interim administration then formed a new committee and advertised for filling the vacancy of VC at the 19 universities, following which the search committee selected 57 candidates. A panel of three candidates for each university was sent to the provincial cabinet, which then selected 19 candidates for the 19 universities, following which a summary was sent to the KP Governor House.
However, despite the passage of several days, the names are yet to be notified. The reason for the delay is that these universities are suffering from adhocism.
The selected candidates are worried about the matter being delayed further, saying that when the new provincial government comes into power, the matter should not be left hanging.
According to sources, while 19 names have been finalised for the 19 universities, different names have been circulating among different groups of teachers on social media, making the candidates anxious. The tenure of a VC in KP has been reduced to three years, while in Sindh and Punjab the tenure lasts four years, and at federal universities the tenure of a VC is five years long.
