Majority of newly-elected MNAs are landowners, educated individuals

ISLAMABAD: The majority of newly-elected members of the National Assembly (MNAs) are landowners and educated individuals, but in terms of age, young lawmakers are less than four percent.

This was revealed in a study by the Geo-Election Cell, which examined the livelihood, educational qualifications and ages of 265 newly-elected MNAs.

According to the Geo-Election Cell, the majority of the newly-elected MNAs are associated with agriculture, 112 MNAs are landowners and 83 have a personal business, while 20 members are not associated with any business and only do politics.

According to statistics, in the National Assembly, 16 are lawyers by profession, 7 are doctors, 4 are engineers, 4 are religious scholars, 3 are the custodian of shrines, 3 are from the field of teaching and 13 are connected to other fields.

In terms of educational qualifications, the majority of newly-elected MNAs are graduates and master’s degree holders. Out of 265, 42 percent i.e. 112 newly-elected MNAs are graduates, while 63 members have master’s degrees. Among the newly-elected MNAs, 42 have LLB and 3 have LLM degrees, 10 have MBBS degrees, 3 have engineering, 4 have PhD and two have MPhil degrees.

The number of intermediate is 12 while 9 are educated up to matric, 1 is middle pass and 4 have other educational credentials, including diplomas.

In terms of age, among newly-elected MNAs, the number of young people is less than 4 percent, while the number of middle-aged members is more than 52 percent.

Out of 265 newly-elected members, only 10 are young and their age is between 26 and 35 years, while 93 members are in the age group of 46 to 55 years.

According to the statistics, 46 newly-elected members are between 36 and 45 years old, 56 are between 56 and 65 years old, while 47 newly-elected members are between 66 and 75 years old. Also, 13 new members are 75 years old.
