PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq has declared February 8 as the day of relief for the masses, predicting the downfall of “anti-people” political parties.
Addressing the party’s social media convention on Sunday, he said that family politics posed a greater threat to the country than cancer, blaming backwardness on two families that ruled the country seven times.
Haq pointed out that leaders of traditional political parties amassed wealth, leaving the country burdened with Rs80,000 billion. Speaking at the convention attended by hundreds of social media activists from across the province, Provincial President Prof Mohammad Ibraheem Khan, Vice-President Inayatullah Khan, General Secretary Abdul Wasi, and others also addressed the gathering.
Highlighting the impact of flawed policies, Haq stated that 110 million people in the country are forced to live below the poverty line today. He held incapable and incompetent leaders responsible for the political and economic uncertainty in the country.
“The next government should be formed based on people’s votes rather than familial preferences,” he said.
The JI chief asserted that the people aspire to see a prosperous country, standing against ignorance and corruption. Criticising the two families that alternately ruled the country, he claimed they normalised corruption.
“The nation is grappling with price hikes and joblessness due to the flawed policies of corrupt rulers,” he said, and expressed confidence that Jamaat-e-Islami was fully capable of navigating the country through the prevailing crisis.
Encouraging social media activists, he urged them to promote sanity and truth instead of using indecent and abusive language. He assured that a Jamaat-e-Islami government would represent the entire nation, not just a few families, adding that it would be a true representative government of the people.
The JI chief accused PMLN, PPP, PTI, and military generals of betraying the country’s constitution, destroying national institutions and leading the country into the slavery of IMF and the World Bank due to flawed policies.
