Islamabad:It was fun as Christmas music flowed, aroma of cookies and dishes, oriental and continental, swirled around in the air with coffee being overpowering in some corners with guests enjoying every moment at the Christmas Charity Bazar organized by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany at sprawling lawns of a local hotel.

Ambassador Alfred Grannas, the German envoy to Islamabad, made his entry to the Christmas Bazar in the evening and mingled around, welcoming the guests and appreciating the support extended by the participants who established their very beautiful stalls, offering exquisite items to the guests.

“This is the second edition of the ‘Christmas Bazar’ outside the Diplomatic Enclave and it is good to see that it has become more accessible to greater number of guests. I hope everybody is enjoying the spirit of Christmas,” Ambassador Grannas said as he spoke briefly from the dais.

He encouraged all those who are present at the event to make good purchases because all the money raised from this event will go the charities in Pakistan. Ambassador Grannas then invited Santa, to make another appearance and this time Santa was more traditional with his bellowing laughter filling the air and the bell ringing. Santa offered his best wishes to everyone at the function and to the world to cherish every moment of the Christmas season in its true spirit of kindness and sharing happiness.

He specially greeted the children who were swarming him, trying to get as close to him as possible and received the Christmas goodies. The pretty Elf of Santa, a young lady carrying a sack full of goodies for children kept digging deep in the sack and distribute Christmas presents among the children to shrieking delights. A press release released by the Press and Cultural Section of the German Embassy said that the German members of the embassy baked more than 60 kg of cookies and several square meters of delicious German cakes.

“In Santa’s Workshop, they manufactured wreaths and chocolate as well as other delicacies, toys and Christmas decorations have been imported from Germany only for this occasion,” the press release added. The stalls at the Christmas Charity Bazar included home-made German cookies and cakes, handicraft, jewelry, Christmas décor, kids’ corner and music, lamps, cushions, shawls and Christmas themed pottery.
