Respect, love and dignity makes up society, says Sindh IGP
Sindh police chief IGP Riffat Mukhtar Raja on Sunday said the police department’s commitment is to eradicate social corruption. He was speaking at an event held in connection with Sindhi Culture Day at the Central Police Office (CPO) in Karachi.
IGP Raja mentioned that they serve wearing a police uniform, including a cap and a badge. He said they are committed to upholding the dignity of the cap and the badge, expressing love and respect, and emphasising that Allah has given them the opportunity to serve the people.
He also mentioned that the cap and the badge are symbols of peace and love, as he extended greetings for Sindhi Culture Day to the officers, youth and the people of the province.
He said Sindh gives life, and life is synonymous with Sindh. He stressed that the day has been designated with the cap and the badge, signifying the identity of the province. He also said that if there is no respect, love or dignity in society, it cannot be called society.
The IGP said the police serve to protect the lives, properties and honour of the public, whether wearing the police uniform or the symbolic Sindhi cap and Ajrak.
The ceremony at the CPO marks the first-ever celebration of Sindhi Culture Day, with the police chief and other officials participating as they donned the traditional Sindhi cap and Ajrak. The celebration acknowledged the richness of Sindhi culture, with cultural songs and dance performances by officers.
The event saw the participation of the top police officials of the province. Establishment DIG Pir Muhammad Shah delivered a speech at the event, saying that for 13 years the province has been celebrating its culture from Kashmir to Karachi, and the celebration has now extended to the CPO.
Sindh’s culture is ancient, and it is integral to the identity of the province, he added. The ceremony emphasised the significance of the Sindhi cap and Ajrak as symbols of the province’s culture. In conclusion, the ceremony showcased the significance of Sindhi culture, emphasising the values of love, respect and pride, which are integral to the identity of the province.
