Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Sunday said that the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) political opponents keep talking about riots in the city. He pointed out that it is not 1990, or even 2007, when on May 12, “they” resorted to straight firing on the residents of the city.
Addressing a public meeting in District Central, he said the people of the city want love, prosperity and jobs. He said that no MNA or MPA of the PPP was elected from the district but the party still made the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and the Liaquatabad Supermarket for the locals.
He also said Bhutto and his supporters have always worked for the people of the district. All towns of the district are under the Jamaat-e-Islami, but Shahrah-e-Noorjahan, which is one of the major arteries of the district, is being constructed by the PPP, not the JI, he added.
The mayor said if the people of the district vote for the PPP, the party would resolve all the issues being faced by the locals. Addressing JI city chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Wahab asked him to work instead of envying him. Criticising the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, he said they resorted to China-cutting on the city’s drains. He said if the people of the district want prosperity and rid themselves of mafias, they should vote for the PPP.
