It is another one of Mohit Suri’s films that failed at the box office thanks to an over-philosophical narrative but – much to our surprise - Hamari Adhuri Kahani is
now being turned into a theatre play thanks to its aesthetic skills that caught the fancy of stage enthusiasts across the border.
Based on novel All That Could Have Been, which is co-written by Suhrita Sengupta and Mahesh Bhatt, Hamari Adhuri Kahani is headed to the proscenium arch, landing first in Delhi on August 1st and later, in Karachi. According to Indian media reports, Bhatt’s protégé Imran Zahid will be seen playing Emraan Hashmi’s role as Aarav, a rich and suave hotelier who falls in love with an already married florist, Vasudha.
“Bhatt saheb feels I will do justice to the lead character because I have earlier played characters pulled from autobiographical real-life situations, such as in the stage adaptations of Arth and Daddy or The Last Salute.” Zahid said in an interview.
Apart from Imran Zahid, the play would also be featuring Pakistani band Raeth, whose song ‘Bhula Do’ hit the airwaves and became an instant hit in Pakistan almost a decade ago. The band is expected to be composing the music for the play. The play version of the Bollywood film, Hamari Adhuri Kahani won’t be the first time that Mahesh Bhatt’s script has been staged in Pakistan. Earlier in April, Daddy was put up as part of NAPA’s International Theatre Festival and was highly appreciated.
Now, one has to wait and see how Mahesh Bhatt can work his magic and turn a box-office disaster into a theatre masterpiece!
Hermès in hot water after PETA documentary
grills luxury powerhouse
PETA is up in fury again and this time its rage is directed at luxury brand Hermès
and its most iconic product: the Birkin.
According to new accusations from PETA, the powerhouse sources its exotic skins from crocodile farms in Texas and Zimbabwe that abuse the animals in the most inhumane ways possible. PETA actually placed two undercover investigators on the farms and grabbed video evidence of the mistreatment of the crocs; the short documentary has been released as evidence. The group filed a complaint with the authorities in the US and has created a petition that people can sign to “demand that Hermès stops selling items made from crocodile and alligator skins.”
In an interview given to British newspaper, The Daily Mirror, Mimi Bekhechi the director of PETA said, “PETA’s exposé of Hermès’s suppliers in the U.S. and Africa reveals that every Hermès watchband or Birkin bag means a living, feeling being experienced a miserable life.”
Given the popularity of Hermès bags, which are often made of exotic skins, and are carried by super-celebs like Victoria Beckham, Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian, the prospect that the house would suspend sales of such items is hard to imagine. However, this time it seems PETA has taken it up a notch and seems to be fighting for the crocs till the last breath.
