Did you know that lip-smacking hors d’oeuvres or snacks are known as ‘Tapas’ in Spain?  Legend has it that because of the illness of thirteenth century Castilian King Alfonso X, he was advised to eat small snacks with his wine between meals to maintain his strength. After recovering, he passed a law that wine or beer served in taverns had to be accompanied by food.Canapes from the Mediterranean

Tapas are also known as small-plate dining and if you put several of these tapas together, you’ve got a delicious meal with a tempting array of tastes and ingredients. These snacks can be served cold (such as mixed olives and cheese) or hot (such as chopitos - battered fried baby squid). In select restaurants and bars in Spain and other Mediterranean countries tapas have evolved into an entire, sophisticated cuisine. Is your mouth watering yet? Well, the good news is that now you don’t have to travel all the way to Spain to find Tapas, as the management of Avari Towers Hotel, Karachi, has organized the ‘Mediterranean Tapas Food Festival’ for bon vivants.

This time around Asia Live restaurant has been decorated with flags from Mediterranean countries, while place mats with food images adorn the dining tables. This is not all! The lights are a key feature that has been designed specifically for this particular festival, with the hue casting a glow all over the place. In short the restaurant has the perfect ambiance where foodies can enjoy yummilicious canapes. The festival offers casual refined dining with hot and cold food items displayed on the buffet in small portions. Moreover, the live preparation of a few signature and popular tapas remains the highlight of the festival. The buffet station has a variety of breads, soups, and cold and hot selections including ‘Feta Cheese, Olive & Cherry Tomato Brochette’; ‘Mini Pita Pocket with Hummus & Lamb Fillet’, ‘Salmon & Wasabi Sushi Roll’, ‘Buffalo chicken wings’, ‘Falafel Pita Pockets’, ‘Chicken &cheese ball with garlic mayo’, ‘Potato cheese and spinach croquet’, ‘Mediterranean quiche’ and much much more. Not to forget the dessert table which offers ‘Caramel Slice’, ‘Cappuccino Cream’, ‘Lemon Meringue’, ‘Churros con Chocolate’ etc.

The Tapa festival will be on till September 21, so go ahead and try out the amazing snacks. Happy munching!
