Anyone for Chikankari?
The best trends are the ones that never go out of style and Chikankari makes it to the top of the list for its timeless elegance. Chikankari is a traditional embroidery style from Lucknow, India and is believed to have been introduced by Nur Jehan, the wife of Mughal emperor Jahangir. Wondering what we are on about? Well, recently ‘Image’ has launched their Chikankari Eid 2016 pret collection which is perfect for the summery Eid.

We all know that Image, established in 1993, has been a brand synonymous with manufacturing high quality embroidered fabrics. And this time too they have come out with beautiful designs in light hues. Their ready-to-wear line comprises signature Chikankari kurta, fully embroidered and embellished with pearls. Not only this, they have also introduced the cotton lawn shirts with full front embroidery and cotton net shirts with embroidery on the front and sleeves. The prints combine pure fabric with rich vibrant hues to create timeless designs in the ever changing world of fashion.
According to Uzma Ahmad of Image, “Keeping the present climate in mind, the pastel colors used are ideal for the summers and we have tried to stay consistent with our pret collection that are wearable throughout the day.” What more do you want? We have been witnessing the designer duo Farhan and Ambreen’s collections on the ramps of various fashion shows for quite some time now. They have been in the business for almost 10 years now and the good news is that they have recently launched their first flagship outlet in Karachi.
Special Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Culture and Tourism, Sharmila Farooqi inaugurated the event, organised by Tehmina Khaled of Take II. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by a glitzy fashion presentation. Renowned models dressed up in formal outfits walked the ramp displaying F & A latest collection, the hair and make-up for the event was done by Depilex. It was a well-attended affair where many celebrities, media persons and fashionistas were present. The two-storey F & A outlet has a complete range of women’s wear from casual kurtis to bridal outfits. They offer a wide variety of casual and semi formal designs in bright and pastel hues including embroidered net kurtis, digital print lawn shirts etc., which is perfect for Eid. The ground floor has an exclusive variety of pret-wear whereas a bridal studio is situated at the mezzanine floor.
The sibling duo, Farhan Wahid and Ambreen Wahid, has carved a niche for themselves with their unique work in the fashion world. “I’m very excited as it has been our long due dream to open a retail outlet and we really want it to be successful. With the launch of this outlet we are ready to compete with big brands out there,” said designer Farhan Wahid. With a mission to take their brand to another level they are planning to expand their retail base to all the major cities of Pakistan.
The Jahanara girl
For those who want to try a new brand ‘Jahanara’ is the way to go. The brand is a product of Insaf Textiles which has been active in the industry since the 1950s. Recently, Jahanara launched its debut Eid collection and the launch was attended by models, socialites, and renowned media personalities with Zara Peerzada as the host.
The brand’s debut unstitched collection consists of ten designs, each in two different summery colour palettes ranging from bright vibrant shades to darker more subtle hues, with embroideries. Each design has a story behind it, portraying an inspiration from around Pakistan and extending further east.
At the launch Hummad Ali Ahmed of Jahanara said, “The Eid Collection is designed to appeal masses with its vibrant designs and affordable prices. What sets us apart is our focus on the input and the process that goes into it - we have used dyes according to internationally set green standards making our products ecologically friendly.”
Further, Abdul Wali Ahmed, Director of the brand added, “We chose the name Jahanara because of its significance in our country’s cultural history and our family’s Mughal ancestry. By giving our brand a personality, we have allowed every girl an opportunity to be able to relate to Jahanara. And thus become a Jahanara Girl who is a modern day princess - she can be a traveller, a musician, an artist, whatever her heart desires.”
