Whether you want a whole new look or just want to breathe fresh life into your current colour; the right hair colour can give confidence, enhance your mood, and make you feel sexy again. Changing your hair colour can go wonderfully right - or horribly wrong. That’s why so many women like to go to professional hair colourists to achieve the desired look. Having a fanciful do can be both fun and fine for work. High-end blended shades can look ultra gorgeous when styled nicely.

Hair colour trends:

Balayage: When you see the colourist at the chair next to you meticulously painting every strand of hair with bleach that is balayage. One of the hottest hair trends of the moment is balayage, which will leave your hair with perfect sun-kissed highlights. Balayage is a French word that refers to the process of sweeping, or painting, colour onto hair.

Ombre: Ombre is the hair colour trend that won’t ever die. Ombre is a French word that literally means ‘shaded like a gradient’. Roots remain dark while the rest of the hair becomes lighter mid-shaft using a balayage technique. This trend is also referred to as ‘surfer strands’ as surfers have the best natural highlights.

Single-process colour: Single-process hair colour is what you want to ask for at the salon if you want an all-over hue update. The hair is just one tone from scalp to ends. It’s also referred to as a base colour. For covering grey hair, a single-process is all you need.

Double-process colour: A double process is a base colour plus highlights. Make sure to book additional time at the salon if you want a two-step hair change, which looks more natural in the end.

Babylights: Babylights are placed around your hairline and on your part. It doesn’t go too deep within your hair. Just think subtle, delicate - and it’s good for fine hair. The technique is taking really small pieces. Take a traditional highlight and cut it in half.

Dip Dye: Dip dye is the most extreme form of Ombre. There is a clear demarcation where one colour ends and the other begins. This high-contrast technique is definitely for a bolder client, and it looks fabulous with rainbow shades especially.Colour me pretty

Spongelights: It’s a new emerging trend that’s just barely started in salons, but pretty soon it will be the buzzed-about technique. It’s a form of hair painting. You apply colour with a sponge and it just touches the surface of that hair, so you’re not penetrating it.” The effect is sun kissed, barely-there colour.

The killer looks:

Recently, L’Oreal Professionnel, introduced the global IT LOOKS 2016 via nationwide road shows. The series kicked-off in Karachi followed by Lahore and Islamabad. The tailor made hair colours ‘blond bronze’ and ‘brilliant burgundy’ were the main focus at the launch events featuring the hair looks for Spring/Summer. The idea was to inspire salons to learn the high fashion, edgy and inspirational looks for 2016.

The events were moderated by Emaan Ahmed, who talked about the inspiration for both the looks which were introduced with an interactive beauty showcase featuring international hair technical consultant Tarek Rizk from Lebanon, stunning model Zara Peerzada in her brilliant burgundy and actress and model Hareem Farooq in her blond bronze. The next session was conducted by Tanzila Hashwani, education manager of the company, where she discussed how different products were used to achieve and localize the looks. Tarek Rizk also demonstrated the looks on six other models live on the stage which each look adapted for the local aesthetics. The looks for these six models were localized versions of the IT LOOKS 2016. Also in attendance at the road shows were Salman Amjad, Hassan Bangash, Masarrat Misbah, Mehr Najeeb and Palwashay Yusuf, Mona J and Aliya Tipu.

The IT LOOKS for 2016 take inspiration from street style fashion across the globe. The Blond Bronze look is for high fashion, brilliance and style and yet has a fun friendly feel to it, while the Brilliant Burgundy is more edgy and inspirational. These looks have been created in Pakistan by Majirel - an exclusive salon brand that provides customers to choose from over a 100 hair colour shades.

Hair colour tips:

With proper care and a little creativity, you can keep your colour-treated hair looking shiny and vibrant.

  • Begin by asking your hair colourist to use a professional hair colour with conditioning properties that will continue to condition the hair as the weeks go by.
  • Don’t go for a dramatic change - stay within one to three shades of your current or natural colour. For instance, if your hair is dark and you want to be platinum blonde, leave it to the professionals and visit your hair salon.
  • If colouring on a whim or just trying something new, go with a non-permanent colour. This type of hair colour will wash out faster. So, if you don’t like it, it’ll wash out sooner. Plus, the results you achieve are usually closer to your natural hair colour, which keeps you from making too drastic a change.
  • Shampoo your colour-treated hair less frequently. This will help your colour last longer and help maintain health in your coloured hair.
  • When you wash colour-treated hair, be sure to use a colour-protecting shampoo. Using a good shampoo will help your colour last longer and help maintain the health of your processed hair.
  • Use conditioner every time you shampoo colour-treated hair as conditioned hair will help your colour look shinier and more even.
