Hi Ed,

The cover story caught my eye because it was about my favourite cricketer, Muhammad Amir. ‘Sub se pehle Pakistan’ by Muhammad Nabeel (15 January) was a good story, and I am totally in agreement with Nabeel; Amir should have stood by his team and his country. Pakistan should be our first consideration and priority. On the back cover, I loved the picture of Skardu! Pakistan is so beautiful but we don’t appreciate this great gift of God.

Dear Editor,

I am a silent reader. I have been following Us for some time but never felt the need to write to you. This week’s cover story forced to shrug my laziness because I feel you people were unfair to Muhammad Amir. He was badly treated by senior players. Their internal politics and egos have cost us many times, and Amir is their latest victim. He was first bullied by Salman Ahmed and after paying his due, he was treated harshly by senior ex-players who did not want him back in the team. Eddy, even our opponents were mindful of the fact that Amir was too young when he wavered. The cricketing world was sympathetic to him and after his come back Amir did well for us. So, I feel we should not judge him so harshly. Allowances should be made for mistakes one commits in their youth.

Hi Ed,

The cover story ‘From kalendae to calendars by Dr. Khwaja Ali Shahid (8 January) was informative if not scintillating. I liked the facts in the story, too, especially that about 30 February being a real date! Good job, Dr Shahid. In the ‘Poets’ Corner’, ‘Alone’ by Amna Ameer was really good. I liked the other poems also and am happy that we have such good young poets. Haven’t seen ‘The Green Room’ for a while. Missing it!

Reflection

Narrated Abu Said (R.A):

Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) said, “Noah and his nation will come (on the Day of Resurrection and Allah will ask (Noah), “Did you convey (the Message)?’ He will reply, ‘Yes, O my Lord!’ Then Allah will ask Noah’s nation, ‘Did Noah convey My Message to you?’ They will reply, ‘No, no prophet came to us.’ Then Allah will ask Noah, ‘Who will stand a witness for you?’ He will reply, ‘Muhammad and his followers (will stand witness for me).’ So, I and my followers will stand as witnesses for him (that he conveyed Allah’s Message).” That is, (the interpretation) of the Statement of Allah: “Thus we have made you a just and the best nation that you might be witnesses over mankind ...” (2.143)
