We have already forgotten the sacrifices made by our ancestors in the creation of Pakistan, and a nation that forgets its past cannot have a bright future. That’s just my opinion....

Hi Ed,

In the issue of October 9, I found the quiz ‘Of bugs and bats’ very informative. I must say that ‘Quiz Whiz’ is a great addition to Us, and should be a regular part of the magazine. I don’t understand why you have started publishing recipes, because Us is not for girls only. For guys, it’s a waste of a couple of pages. Since the magazine is for the youth, its content should be for both girls and guys. Ed, I have also noticed that you no longer publish articles in commemoration of important national days. I feel we have a need to revise our history every now and then or we will forget the lessons we should learn from it. We have already forgotten the sacrifices made by our ancestors in the creation of Pakistan, and a nation that forgets its past cannot have a bright future. That’s just my opinion.

Hello Editor,

I am your most loyal reader, and always read the magazine from cover to cover, even if I do not like some of the stuff, which is not really often. In the last two editions (October 2 and 9), I enjoyed the two instalments of the cover story ‘The Eid engagement and other weddings’ by Iqra Asad. In the issue of October 2, Sidra Jahangir’s article ‘Living under the knife’ was a good read, as was ‘A note to nobody in particular’ by Khalila Jibran. I guess one’s name affects one’s personality, so this article was philosophical. Keep up the good work, Ed!

Hi Ed,

I wonder what’s this fetish doctors have about becoming writers…. I have been reading Us for a long time and note that many of the frequent writers are doctors, the most recent edition being that of Dr Khwaja Ali Shahid whose story on Noor Mahal caught my attention this week (16 October). Please don’t think that I am complaining! I really admire the efforts of our talented doctors but can’t help wondering how they get time to write for magazines. Kidding.

Um, we think that besides being extremely talented, our doctors know how to manage time! Seriously, not kidding at all!

Reflection

Narrated Abu Said (R.A):

Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) said, “Noah and his nation will come (on the Day of Resurrection and Allah will ask (Noah), “Did you convey (the Message)?’ He will reply, ‘Yes, O my Lord!’ Then Allah will ask Noah’s nation, ‘Did Noah convey My Message to you?’ They will reply, ‘No, no prophet came to us.’ Then Allah will ask Noah, ‘Who will stand a witness for you?’ He will reply, ‘Muhammad and his followers (will stand witness for me).’ So, I and my followers will stand as witnesses for him (that he conveyed Allah’s Message).” That is, (the interpretation) of the Statement of Allah: “Thus we have made you a just and the best nation that you might be witnesses Over mankind ...” (2.143)
