Highhandedness of private schools

Dear Editor,

The Federal Education Minister, Shafqat Mahmood, has finally taken notice of the reports that certain private school systems force students to buy entire packages of textbooks at exorbitant prices from designated book sellers.

The students and parents both have indiscriminately been suffering because of this highhanded behaviour of private schools management. Hopefully, now the students would be able to get their textbooks from their older brothers and sisters once they move on to a higher class.

Most of the students in our country belong to low and middle class families and are financially weak and then the burden of buying extra and pricey textbooks was too much.

We hope that the minister’s directive is implemented.

Put on a happy face

Dear Ed,

I finished reading the 25 October issue, and decided to drop you a couple of lines. I liked the cover story ‘Put on a happy face’ because I am a fan of the Joker but then who he isn’t? I am also a great fan of Sameen Amer’s and her particular style of writing made it a pleasure to read the cover story. However, the damper was the look of the magazine. From 24 pages to 16 to this trim version! Please do something about it.

Hey Ed,

I totally agree to Sameen Amer’s point of view that misfortune does not excuse bullying or horrible crimes. Sympathetic portrayal of such characters can motivate the audience to follow the example. Having said that, it was a great movie!

Reflection

Narrated by Abu Musa (R.A)

The Prophet (S.A.W) said, “The example of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like abundant rain falling on the earth, some of which was fertile soil that absorbed rain water and brought forth vegetation and grass in abundance. (And) another portion of it was hard and held the rain water and Allah benefited the people with it and they utilized it for drinking, making their animals drink from it and for irrigation of the land for cultivation. (And) a portion of it was barren which could neither hold the water nor bring forth vegetation (then that land gave no benefits). The first is the example of the person who comprehends Allah’s religion and gets benefit (from the knowledge) which Allah has revealed through me (the Prophets and learns and then teaches others. The last example is that of a person who does not care for it and does not take Allah’s guidance revealed through me (He is like that barren land.)”
