HAPPENINGS

The Introduction between Two Worlds, an art exhibition, was organized by Zindagi Trust at The Second Floor, featuring a stunning display of the artwork of the students of SMB Fatima Jinnah and Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls Schools.

To harness the creative energy and imagination of students in a positive and encouraging environment, Zindagi Trust has been organizing Art Exhibitions at various levels along with focusing on improving the academic performance of the students.

Anam Shakil, the head of Arts Department at Zindagi Trust, tells Us more about this exhibition, “We were organizing regular art exhibitions for the students and the response was phenomenal! So, we decided to take it to the next level. Through the exhibition The Introduction between Two Worlds we wanted our students to interact with the outer world; we just don’t want them to look at the paintings of Pablo Picasso but also learn about his country and culture.”

Students coming from public schools don’t get enough exposure and the artist community is simply unaware of the quality of work produced by these students.

Students were also able to sell their work at the exhibition and got a chance to interact with people who seriously use art to make a difference in the society. In the panel discussion, Rumana Husain, writer and art critic, Ambareen Raza Thompson, Executive Director, IamKarachi and Anam Shakil interacted with the students and encouraged them to pursue their dreams against all odds. Rumana Husain reflected on why art has always been an activity of wealthy people. She shared with the students, “Only few people in Pakistan get to visit art galleries; we think only rich people can produce art because it’s expensive and also because most of the famous artists belong to the elite class.

“Art shouldn’t be restricted to the high-end galleries; it should be visible in our public spaces, too. This is how art gets promoted in the society. It should be accessible to all!”

Reflection

Narrated by Abu Huraira (R.A)

I heard Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) saying regarding Ramadan, “Whoever prayed at night in it (the month of Ramadan) out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.”
