Born on 13th October 1967 in San Jose, California, U.S.
Has four older siblings, two sisters and two brothers.
Studied acting at the University of Arizona and Chicago’s Piven Theatre Workshop.
Joined the comedy troupe Burn Manhattan.
Supported herself by waitressing while pursuing her acting career.
Made her screen debut in 1996 before getting her first major role in The Drew Carey Show (1997 - 2001).
Got her breakout role in medical drama Grey’s Anatomy (2005-2012) which also led to the spin-off Private Practice (2007 - 2013).
Has since appeared in the television series Fargo (2014), Bad Judge (2014 - 2015), and 13 Reasons Why (2017 - present).
Married television executive Alex Young in 2007; they divorced in 2008.
Was diagnosed with a benign meningioma in 2015, for which she underwent surgery.
