Started dancing as a child.
Appeared in the reality television show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 and was recruited for the girl band Girls Aloud which was created by the show. Went on to have success with the pop outfit that released five albums before splitting up in 2013.
Gained recognition outside the group after becoming a judge on the UK version of The X Factor (2008 - 2010, 2014 - 2015). Joined the US version of the show in 2011, but was dismissed after filming just two sets of auditions.
Has since released four albums - 3 Words (2009), Messy Little Raindrops (2010), A Million Lights (2012) and Only Human (2014) - and is currently working on the fifth.
