  • Born on 9th June 1963 in Kentucky, U.S.
  • Is the youngest of four children.
  • Parents divorced when he was 15.
  • Started playing in bands at a young age, aspiring to be a rock musician, before turning his attention towards acting.
  • Made his film debut in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), then became a teen idol during the late 1980s because of his role in the television series 21 Jump Street (1987 - 1990).
  • Starred in Tim Burton’s movie Edward Scissorhands in 1990, which started a long association between the actor and director that has since led to several films, including Ed Wood (1994), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Corpse Bride (2005), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), Alice in Wonderland (2010), and Dark Shadows (2012).
