Farhan Akhtar, the writer-director who stunned Bollywood fans world over with his debut film, Dil Chahta Hai, is currently taking a break from direction. The director-turned-actor, who won several awards for his courageous performance in the biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, is back in the acting spotlight with Bejoy Nambiar’s Wazir, which, according to Farhan, blew him away with its script.
“I think there is so much focus here actually in the trailer on the thrill element, on the action element but when you really get into watching the film it moves you deeply and it makes you think about things in life which are very important,” said Farhan in a recent interview.
Talking to media about his upcoming movie, which is slated to release on January 8, Farhan confessed that it was the powerful script that made him excited about the film.
“The script of Wazir is very powerful and has got some unexpected twists. When I read the script, I got excited because of the thrill it has along with the heart touching side. As soon as I heard about it, I told Vidhu Vinod Chopra that I wish to do it,” explained Farhan.
In Wazir, Farhan plays the role of a cop but unlike Salman Khan’s Chulbul Pandey, his cop will be less cartoonish and sober in comparison.
The film is based on the story of two extraordinary people: a wheelchair-bound chess grandmaster played by Amitabh Bachchan and a valiant ATS officer (Farhan Akhtar) – who come in contact with each other as a conspiracy is plotted against them.
Co-produced by Chopra, Wazir also features John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Aditi Rao Hydari in supporting roles.
