Eight months after the first look of Shamoon Abbasi’s Gidh was launched, the audience gets another taste of the upcoming Pakistani thriller in the form of a teaser that released over the weekend. that released over the weekend. Building on where the first one left off, the minute-long trailer pits Abbasi’s villain against Shaan’s hero in what seems to be a dirty game of greed and corruption set against the backdrop of the entertainment industry.
One catches glimpses of the female lead Sara Loren in her typical seductive avatar as Shaan pulls off a victim-turned-avenger role while Abbasi throws a menacing shadow over the proceedings as the ‘vulture’ in the title role. We even see him sprouting vulture wings at the end of the trailer, leading us to believe that the film will be heavy on special effects.
Marking Shamoon Abbasi’s directorial debut, Gidh is a romantic thriller which reunites the actor-turned-director with
Shaan, the two having previously faced off in Waar and Operation O21. It also stars two other Waar alumni, Ayesha Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi, along with Sara Loren.
The film was announced almost two years ago and having gone through numerous changes (such as the replacement of Humayun Saaed with Shaan in the main role) it still appears no closer to release.
The trailer shows no mention of a release date, making us wonder when the project will finally come to light. With so many local films releasing this year, it would be nice to see Gidh joining the line-up and giving cinema-goers a masala action movie that doesn’t focus on terrorism to look forward to.
